The Graduate School and the AU Libraries,
recognizing that the publication of a book-length scholarly work is a
significant milestone in an academic career, are pleased to continue the
Auburn Authors Awards Program in 2012. The program resumed in 2011
after a hiatus of several years. Eligible graduate faculty and
library staff members, who in the previous calendar year have published
a book-length scholarly work, will be recognized at an annual awards
program sponsored by the Graduate School and the AU Libraries.
Criteria:
Published scholarly works of sufficient scope will be eligible for
consideration. The following list, although not all-inclusive,
illustrates the kinds of works that may be nominated: the first
publication of books, monographs, creative works (novels, poetry
collections, dramas), translations,* textbooks, and edited collections.
Scholarly works published in other formats (e.g., electronic) but
similar in scope to the above book-length works may be nominated.
The following kinds of publications are excluded: occasional
publications (e.g., brochures and pamphlets), re-printings of a book,
translations,* subsequent editions of a previously published book.
Works must be published (copyright date)
between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2011.
A jury, selected by the Graduate Council,
will review nominations and determine eligibility.
Submission:
To be considered for the awards, graduate faculty and library staff
members should submit the following materials:
1. One copy of the book-length scholarly work (returned at the
author’s request)
2. A brief biographical sketch (Word version)
3. A brief synopsis of the book-length scholarly work (Word
version)
4. A color scan of the cover
(e.g., book cover or dust jacket) in PDF or JPG format (300 dpi
resolution or higher)
5. A headshot photograph of the author
in PDF or JPG format (300 dpi resolution or higher, 2"x3" or larger)
Submit all materials to Jessica Nelson, The
Graduate School, 15 Langdon Hall, Auburn University (jsn0002@auburn.edu).
Deadline: To be considered for recognition for 2011, all materials must be received by March 19, 2012.
