Distance Education Course Proposals (Graduate)

 

Submission and Review Process

The Graduate School encourages the development of graduate-level distance education courses.

 Development Support

The Distance Learning Program of the Biggio Center (which is merging with the Office of Distance Learning) provides guidance and support for the development of distance education courses.  For more information, contact the Biggio Center: biggio1@auburn.edu.

Curriculum Course Review Process

1.  Complete the form for Addition and Revision of Courses and the form for Supplemental Information for Addition of Distance Education (DE) Courses

2.  Obtain approval of the following:

          a.  Department Chair / Head

          b.  College / School Curriculum Committee (if any)

          c.  College / School Dean

 

3.  Submit the approved forms to Kevin Snyder for review and approval by the following:

          a.  Graduate Council Curriculum Committee

          b.  Graduate Council

          c.  Dean of the Graduate School

Following Approval by the Graduate Council

4.  Office of Undergraduate Studies prepares the paperwork for AU Bulletin entry

Curriculum Proposal Review Process

1. Complete the Preliminary Proposal form for New Undergraduate and Graduate Programs

2. Obtain approval of the following:  

          a. Department Head/Chair

          b. College/School Curriculum Committee (if any)

          c. College/School Dean  

3. Submit the approved Preliminary Proposal form to Kevin Snyder in the Office of Undergraduate Studies (who distributes materials) for administrative review by the following: 

          a. Dean of the Graduate School

          b. Office of Institutional Research and Assessment

          c. Provost 

Following Approval of the Preliminary Proposal by the Provost

4. Complete the Request for a Banner Code/ New Course Prefix form

5. Complete the Proposal for a New Undergraduate or Graduate Program form

6. Obtain the approval of the following (for both forms):

          a. Department Head/Chair

          b. College/School Curriculum Committee (if any)

          c. College/School Dean

7. Submit the approved Request for a Banner Code/ New Course Prefix form to the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment for approval.  

8. Submit the approved Proposal for a New Undergraduate or Graduate Program form to Kevin Snyder in the Office of Undergraduate Studies for review and approval by the following: 

          a. Graduate Council Curriculum Committee

          b. Graduate Council

          c. Dean of the Graduate School

9.  Submit to Kevin Snyder the paperwork required for submission to the Board of Trustees and/or the Alabama Commission on Higher Education.

          a.  A memo from the unit initiating the change (i.e., the department), along with supporting documentation (e.g., the curriculum model), addressed to the Dean of the College.

          b.  A memo from the Dean (not the Associate Dean) requesting approval of the change, addressed to the Dean of the Graduate School.

Following Approval by the Graduate Council

10. The Graduate School and the Office of Undergraduate Studies jointly prepare the paperwork for submission to and/or approval by the following:

          a. Provost

          b. President

          c. Board of Trustees

          d. Alabama Commission on Higher Education (as information item)

11. Following all approvals, the new distance education program is added to the program incentory, the Banner system, and the Auburn University Bulletin.
